Used Motorcycles For Sale – Tips For Buying Online
Not too long ago, if a person was considering buying a used motorcycle, they would talk to friends, browse the classifieds in the local paper or perhaps be lucky enough to stumble across one. Today, it has become commonplace to search for and find a used bike on the internet, an avenue providing the prospective buyer with a seemingly endless variety of motorcycles to choose from. These can consist of dealer websites, classified ads or, as we will consider in detail, the online auction.
Your first concern is finding out whether the person or store selling the bike you want is reputable. Many online auction sites provide a way for buyers (and sellers) to see how dependable a party is by providing a "feedback" score. This score is made up of past transactions and can usually be sorted through on an individual basis, providing you an opportunity to see what has been bought or sold in the past and how the other parties rated their experience.
You'll want to be sure that the person you're considering buying from can be contacted relatively easily. Email is far too oblivious these days - make sure you have phone contact information and use it! A phone conversation (or many!) is a must in getting a good feel for the seller and to determine their availability. Obtain their full name and physical address - if they won't provide that info, avoid them!
If you're considering a used motorcycle of considerable cost, you'll want to be sure that the transaction can be escrowed, which has become commonplace. This allows your funds to be placed in a secure account until delivery or pick-up of the item(s.) Do not succumb to pressure from the seller to pay up front. A reputable seller will not conduct business this way.
So you have found the bike for you and have made the purchase. Congratulations! Now it's time to either take delivery or travel to pick it up. If you're not well-versed in motorcycle mechanics, it is extremely important to have a qualified motorcycle mechanic with you to examine the bike in detail. This is your final opportunity to find and discuss any issues with the buyer before finalizing the transaction.
Best of luck to you in your search and good riding!
